The preferred budget VR headset for most people is the one for smartphones. People like it because it gives you the VR experience for a small price. These headsets usually only fit phones with 4-6 inches screens. What about tablets though? Many are wondering if there is a VR headset that can fit a 7-inch tablet.
Yes, there are VR headsets that can fit a 7-inch tablet. These are larger than the average VR headset. Although limited in numbers, you can find a VR headset for tablets.
We’ll get to the headsets straight away but stick around after that, I’ll explain why VR headsets and tablets rarely work.
VR Headset For Tablets
So far, I’ve only been able to find two VR headsets that can work with tablets. I’ve heard about other headsets that work with tablets but I couldn’t find them in online stores. I’ll mention the VR headsets are not available on Amazon in the end. If you don’t like the ones I recommend, search for those in other stores.
Durovis Dive 7 – VR Headset For Android Tablets
The Durovis Dive 7 is the most popular VR headset for tablet users. Mainly, because it’s the only available VR headset specifically for tablets. It’s really hard to find a VR headset for a tablet, you’ll have to look through several stores. Even then, no guarantees that you’ll find one.
The Dive 7 works well with 7-inch tablets. You can also use it with Nintendo Switch. It’s really comfortable and it’s not that heavy for a tablet VR headset.
N/C VR Glasses For 5-7 Inch Smartphone
The N/C VR headset is a bit different. It’s not specifically designed for tablets like the Dive 7. It can support smartphone screens up to 7 inches. So, it should work with your 7-inch tablet. Check the dimensions before buying. The screen frame is adjustable, so you can adjust it for your tablet.
This headset is excellent for watching movies. It has a wide view angle and the sound quality is solid. You can use it for playing games, of course, but movies work best on this headset.

Alternative Choices
As I said, I know of other VR headsets but I couldn’t find them in online stores. So, as promised, I’ll list these headsets too. Keep in mind that the headsets I linked above are far better.
- Stooksy VR-Spektiv Tab 7
This headset is relatively old. I know of it because it was the first VR option for tablets. The design is quite average. It’s nothing special but you can use it with a tablet. If you’re able to find it somewhere, it will work with a 7-inch tablet. - yah3D VR Viewer
The yah3D Viewer is an older model. Specifically designed for the iPad. The design is nothing like the average VR headset. You only get glasses with the attachment for the tablet. I really don’t recommend this product. Just thought it would be nice to have options.
Now, you can see that there are not too many VR headsets for tablets. In fact, you can count them with your fingers. Why is that?
Do VR Headsets Work Well With Tablets?
The reason why brands and manufacturers don’t bother with making VR for tablets is size related. Tablets are just too big to work well with VR headsets. As you can see from the headsets I recommended, they are really bulky and large.
A VR headset needs to be comfortable in order to work well. VR headsets provide the experience by making you lock on your phone and shut off your surroundings. That is achieved by putting the phone close to you.
However, if the VR headset is weighing on your head, the VR experience is ruined. You won’t be able to focus. You will be constantly reminded that there’s something heavy on your head. So, no matter how close the tablet is to you, the heaviness will ruin your experience.
That’s why brands make VR headsets only for smartphones. It’s not that they are not aware that people are looking for headsets for tablets. They know that tablets don’t work well with VR headsets. Smartphones are the best option for VR headsets.
Let me recommend other types of VR headsets in case this changed your mind.
Other Recommendations For VR Headsets
I understand that you came here looking for VR headsets for tablets. Believe me, you’re much better off sticking to your smartphone. Or, you can consider other types of VR headsets. That is if you can afford it.
VR Headsets For Smartphones
These VR headsets are an excellent choice for first-time buyers. They are cheap and quite handy because you can use them with your smartphone. You can find a lot of models, consider these first.
- Atlasonix VR Headset for Android and iOS phones.
- OPTOSLON VR 3D Headset
VR Headsets For PC
Now, I don’t think you are looking for a headset like this. If you were looking for a VR headset for tablets, I don’t think you will switch to a PC. Nonetheless, there may be customers like that, so here are some recommendations.
Standalone VR Headset
Standalone VR headsets are relatively new devices. These headsets don’t need to be hooked up with another device. They work on their own. If you’re really a fan of VR, these are the headsets you want. Standalone VR headsets are supposed to make a progress toward the best VR experience.
Closing Thoughts
Let’s end this with a nice conclusion. There are VR headsets that can work with tablets. However, these are few in number and don’t work really well. Your tablet has to be pretty advanced too.
My advice is to get a VR headset for your smartphone. It’s a nice place to start with, you don’t have to spend too much. If you’re getting to like the VR experience, you can move on to something better. Standalone VR headsets are the best option if you can afford them.
