You may have heard about the beef between wireless headphones users and wired headphones users. The wires fanatics complain about how you can’t always charge your Bluetooth headphones. Today, I’ll show you How To Charge A Bluetooth Headset Without A Charger.

It’s true, without a place to charge your headset, it’s useless. However, there is a way to solve the charging issue. It’s not always convenient but it helps in some situations. So, if you’re wondering how to charge a Bluetooth headset without a charger, you’ve come to the right place.

 Let’s start.

USB On-The-Go

Obviously, you need a source of power in order to charge your headset. A source of power can be any device that uses a battery or that is connected to a circuit. So, your phone or tablet is the device that you can use.

However, you’ll need to connect the headset and the device somehow. The way to do that is with an OTG cable. I guess most of you know what an OTG cable is. If you don’t, check it out here.

Now, what type of connection your headset uses for charging? The reason why I’m asking this is that you’ll need another cable, and you need to know what type of cable.

For headsets with USB Type C, buy a cable with a USB 3.0 male connector and USB Type C connector. For headsets with USB 3.0, buy a cable with two USB 3.0 male connectors.

Did this confuse you? See, the OTG cable is for your phone, it has a C type and 3.0 female connector. The C type from the OTG goes on your phone and the female 3.0 connects with the other cable.

Connect the 3.0 from the other cable with the OTG’s female 3.0. The other end of the cable goes on your headset. And that’s it, your headset should be charging.

However, you need to make sure that your smartphone supports OTG. Unfortunately, some phones don’t have this option, so charging with OTG is not an option.

Also, if you don’t want to buy another cable, you can find an OTG with a male 3.0 instead of a female. You can make an OTG yourself, that is if you’re savvy.

Charging headset with PC or laptop

If you have a PC or laptop nearby, you won’t need the OTG. You’ll only need the other cable I was talking about. Just connect one end with the PC and the other with your headset.

I just wanted you to know that this is an option. I guess if you are near a PC, you’ll have a charger too.

Is charging your headset without a charger bad

You shouldn’t be worried about damaging your headset. The headset will prevent any energy overflow, so no need to worry about voltage or stuff like that. The same goes for charging your headset with other chargers. No matter what kind of charger you’ll use, the headset will be safe.

Pro tip: Always carry a power bank with you if you plan on using the OTG. Your headset will be charged but your phone will be emptied. Check out the power bank that I use personally here.
