However, some things are still unclear. Here, we’ll go over peripherals compatibility while focusing on: Can you use a PS4 headset on PS5?

Yes, you can use the PS4 headsets on the PS5. The Platinum Wireless and Gold Wireless Headset will be compatible with PS5. In fact, most PS4 peripherals can be used with PS5. Third-party headsets with USB or jack connection will work too, not all though.

PS5 Compatible Headsets

I’m sure most of you are excited about the PS5 release, so you’ve been up-to-date with PS5 news. If so, you know that there will be new peripherals coming out for the PS5. Despite that, Sony has been kind enough to make the PS4 accessories compatible with PS5.

Not all PS peripherals will be compatible though. We don’t know much yet. So far, we know about controllers and officially-licensed headsets. As for third-party headsets, you’ll need to check the specs or contact the manufacturer.

Briefly, I’ll go over what we know so far.

Official PS4 Headsets

The PS4 headsets are quite expensive. It would be really unreasonable if they are not compatible with PS5. Sony knows this. Users spend a lot on peripherals, they don’t want to buy new ones with each PS release.

PlayStation 4 Platinum Wireless Headset

The PlayStation 4 Platinum Wireless Headset has been praised a lot. It’s a really good headset that makes for a great gaming experience. This headset will be compatible with the PS5. This information has been released officially here.

PlayStation 4 Gold Wireless Headset

The Gold Wireless Headset was a more affordable option. If you have it, you’re in luck. This headset can be used with the PS5. This information has been officially released here.

Licensed Third-Party PS4 Headsets

Besides the official PS4 headsets, there are a lot of third-party headsets. Customers usually stick with their favorite brands. So, many opted for a licensed third-party headset to go with the PS4. Now, those customers are wondering if they can use their headsets with the PS5.

I don’t know why but Sony still hasn’t been clear about third-party headsets. Most likely, it’s not their fault, it all depends on the manufacturer. That’s why Sony advised checking with the manufacturer for PS5 compatibility.

Still, we know that some headsets will be compatible. We’ll not cover all of the compatible headsets, just those that have been considered popular. If you can find your headset here, you can use it with the PS5.

The Arctis 1 was and still is a popular gaming headset for the PS4. If you have it, it will work on the PS5.

The ASTRO A40 is another headset that will work on the PS5. It’s a wired headset though.

The Arctics 7 is one of the best gaming headsets for PS4, and from now on, for the PS5 too.

PS 3D Audio Technology

Now, let’s talk about the audio technology that the PS5 will be featuring. The reason I want to talk about this is that PS5 audio technology determines which third-party headset you can use.

I’ve already said that there’s not a full list of third-party headsets compatible with the PS5. Although it all depends on the manufacturer, some are speculating that the headset must support PS5 audio technology.

The PS5 will feature 3D audio technology called Tempest 3D Audio Tech. This makes sure that your gaming experience is excellent. It also goes great with VR. If the headset you have in mind supports Tempest 3D Audio Tech, most likely it can be used with PS5.

Sony also came out with a PS5 exclusive headset that will get the most of out audio technology. The Pulse 3D Headset.

PS4 Peripherals Compatible With PS5

Since we’re talking about PS4 headsets that can be used with the PS5, I thought we should go over the other accessories. Fortunately, most PS4 peripherals can be used with the PS5. There are some conditions though.

Controllers

The Dual Shock Controller can also be used with the PS5. Sony has released a new controller for the PS5 called Dual Sense. Nonetheless, you can still use the Dual Shock Controller. Not with all games though. You can use the PS4 controller only with PS4 games that work on the PS5.

You may want to know about the Move Motion Controllers and the VR Aim Controller. These will also work on the PS5 but only for PS Virtual Reality games. This makes sense, you don’t want to spend more on peripherals just for the new console.

Sony has also said that they want users to experience the advantages of the Dual Sense Controller. That’s why they are limiting the Dual Shock only to PS4 games.

Other Peripherals

The rest of the peripherals which we have not gone over are compatible with the PS5. I’m talking about PS4 accessories like wheels, flight sticks, and arcade sticks. These are supposed to work both with PS5 and PS4 games.

Closing Thoughts

I know that there’s always a lot of hype around new console releases. So, if you’re worried that the accessories you bought for the old version won’t work, let me put your mind at ease. As long as your headset is officially licensed for the console, it will most likely work.

Both PS and Xbox know that customers don’t really like it when they have to buy new peripherals all over again. So, the smartest thing to do is make them compatible. Either way, most people will opt for new accessories.
